Second Chances 5k Run/Walk Denver

Do you believe in second chances? Would you want one yourself?

We do – obviously!
So does Prison Fellowship. You may have heard of them.

That’s why we are thrilled with our new partnership with Prison Fellowship. When we learned that they were planning an event in Denver called the Second Chances 5k Denver, we contacted them and signed on as a race sponsor. It’s a natural fit given our parallel missions.
With this race, Prison Fellowship and Second Chances hope to Continue reading

Something about Hope

Something about hope instead of despair, and a path out of poverty touches me deeply. I think about a woman I knew named Clyddie. When I met her she was raising her grandson Michael in a rundown rental while her daughter was in prison. I saw how afraid she was that Michael would be taken from her if the authorities found out that her heat had been shut off and she still could not pay the bill. She begged me please not to tell anyone. She was willing to work hard, and her faith in God was strong, but they were suffering, in part because of felony records. How would I feel in her place? I’m thankful to have met her for many reasons. Everyone deserves second chances, and I want my sisters like Clyddie and their families to have them. We are Jesus’ people, and should be all about redemption and grace, after all.

Because God is Working

I joined because I was asked, but I stayed because God is working at Second Chances. He shows up where the weakest are in the greatest need and the world says, “No, this won’t happen.” But God says, “Yes” and it happens for the ladies we serve. I’ve seen many good things happen where I’ve been at the end of my natural abilities and knowledge, ready to give up, and God has swooped in and made everything new. Serving Second Chances grows my faith, not just that of the ladies we serve.

Courageous Participants

I discovered Second Chances when the Executive Director visited my Bible study at a church in the DTC. Though I came from corporate background, I was currently working with people who had been given many second chances. In fact, as I coached my team through the hiring process, I would allow each individual a second or third chance. I loved the concept of helping women who were willing to learn and contribute despite unfortunate circumstances of the past. After becoming a volunteer, I was especially touched by the powerful testimonies shared by the courageous participants of the Second Chances program. Second Chances beautifully combines sustainability through job skills and experience with Christ-like love and mentoring.
